Frequently Asked Questions.
What can I expect during the appointment? Typically we will administer a sedative first. This allows the pet to become relaxed and sleepy. Once the pet is sedated a second injection is given that is an overdose of anesthetic, stopping the heart and breathing. In general it is painless and quick.
How will I know when it is the right time for euthanasia? Criteria should include loss of appetite, weight loss, inability to stand, loss of interest in favorite activities. These things can vary with specific disease conditions. If you aren’t sure, I am happy to discuss this with you. Please see more info on our resources page.
Who can be present for the euthanasia? Anyone you wish can be present for part or all of the appointment. Some people stay just for the sedative and some wish to stay for the final moments.
What will happen with my pets body after the appointment? Some people choose to bury their pets on their property. For cremation services we recommend Loving Paws (https://lovingpaws.angelpaw.com). You can make arrangements for them to come to your house shortly after the appointment to care for your pets remains.
